Trying to go Blonde

A few months ago I decided that I've been a red head for so long (years and years and years), that I would like a nice change and go blonde.

The good thing about being a red head is that the regrowth is not very noticable, and it's a good colour for work (professional).

The good thing about going blonde is that I think I'll look younger (and I'm trying to 'grasp' onto anything that may make me look younger), and blondes look good on stage (good for my Nov show).

I asked the husband what he thought if I went blonde.  And he said "well, if you're going to go blonde - go really 'blonde'".  Hmmmmm (LOL)

So, last month I bought a 'platnum' blonde semi permanent, popped it in and when I washed it out

.... NOTHING.

I was still red - no change.

So this morning, I tried again.  Popped in the platnum blonde semi and left it longer (max time).  When I washed it out and dried my hair I thought WOW I'm like a dark blonde..

"NO".

When I got into the light - my hair was as red as red as before.

Ahhhhhhhh

So I've now booked an appointment in at my hairdressers next Saturday to have foils put in - just half a head.

Lets see how that goes.  I hope I don't like look a red head with blonde tips.  I want to look like a 'blonde'.

Fingers crossed.

Hi Sus foils do sound great as it will give your hair some highlights .I do foils at my hairdresser every about 3 months or there abouts.I get my hair done from home from a hairdresser thats very cheap and does a great job.Look forward seeing the results on your hair...

Oh Sus, when it comes to going blonde it really does pay to go to the professionals. most other colours can be attempted at home but blonde... I would never try it again.

Foil highlights sound like a great idea. Make sure you post a pic once it is done.

Sus is your hair naturally red? If not it could have something to do with the product you have been using previously. Certainly before you do anything else you should seek the advise of a hairdresser.

Both my mother and sister are away or else I would ask them for you as they are qualified hairdressers.

Sometimes a hormonal imbalance can affect the colour from staying as well. I remember when I was pregnant the first time, not a thing would take in my hair. Smiling

Ok.... Here is how it works Sus, you need to use a PERMANT colour if your hair is darker than the colour you want to put in. Semis will only work on hair that is lighter than the shade you are aiming for. Eg. If you are blonde, then going brunette or red is easy, If you have dark hair, you will need to use a permanent blonding cream to remove the colour from your hair first. I would suggest using a hair colour remover, you can get them from pharmacies etc and strip your colour first and then "fill" the colour with the tone of blonde you really want to be.
The only thing is, from personal experience I have been red and gone back to blonde lots of times and the hairdressers even freak out about doing it. Apparently the red pigment is really hard to get out and it make take a couple of times til you get blond blonde. Foils are probably the best eway to do it as you gradually lighten and lighten it.
Good luck....

Just remembered something, if you use a conditioner with high levels of silicon then it is harder for a dye to grab, i had that trouble a few years ago when i went to a hairdresser and the foils did not work, i complained and got my money back and they explained why it would have happened.

It may take a bit to grab not sure why its doing whats its been doing though .Have a talk to a hair dresser she may be able to shed some light on the subject.I think you would look great a blonde.

that's really odd......you should send it back to the manufacturer or at least ask what happened to it ?
Hope it looks great in the end...i went red from black! (Well red bits and violent bits).
