Apple and Pear Crumble

Apple and pear crumble

A deliciously healthy crumble everyone will love! And it's really simple too, so for those of you who don't normally bake - give this a go. You will be very proud of the results!

Serves 6

Ingredients

2 Large Green apples
2 Large Pears
1/2 Cup Water
1/4 Cup LSA (Ground Linseed, Sunflower Seeds, Almonds)
1 Cup Oats
2 Tbsp Sunflower seeds
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1 Tbsp Olive oil (Extra virgin)
1 Tbsp Honey

Method

Preheat oven to 180C. / 350F / Gas 4.

Core and dice the apples and pears, leaving the skin on. Then in a saucepan add the water, apples and pears and cook until soft. This should take about 15 - 20 minutes. Make sure you stir it as it is cooking, and if it is starting to go dry, just add a bit more water.

In the meantime, combine the LSA, oats, sunflowers seeds and cinnamon in a bowl and mix well. Then stir through the olive oil and honey.

When the apple and pears are cooked, place them in a lightly greased baking dish. Spread the oat mixture over the top.

Cook in the oven for about 20 minutes or until the top is golden.

Allow to cool to room temperature before serving. You can add some cream to it, but it is actually delicious the way it is!

Notes and Tips:

- If you can't find any ground Linseed, Sunflower Seed and Almond (LSA) mix, you can use any of the following: wheatgerm, a mix of wheatgerm and ground almonds or other ground nuts or seeds, oat bran or wheat bran.

I am making this tomorrow as we will have the children over and they always want sweets. I will probably make a low fat custard to go with it as they love custard.

easy

This recipe is so easy to make and can easily have substitute ingredients if you don't have everything you need. I made it tonight with apples, peaches, strawberries, blueberries and then some raisins in the crumble. My whole family loved it and couldn't believe this was healthy. A great way to enjoy dessert without feeling guilty.
Also mum can't eat honey so I simply put more oil in and added 2 tbsp of brown sugar for sweetness but it probably would have been ok without it or with some other type of sweetener.
