Flashing Disco Ball

My first born turns 7 in two weeks time and we're having a Disco / Dance party.

All the little girls from her class, plus some other friends and cousins are coming.

I'm not having an entertainer, but have asked my mum and her friend to look after the music and I have sent her a draft schedule of events (i.e. activities) - copy below.

And today I popped into a chinese $2 shop and was able to pick up a flashing disco ball which I'm quite chuffed about.

So here is the draft party schedule - what do you think?  What else can we do:

11.00: Children Arrive / Face Painting / Treasure Box Decorating

  • Face painting (one at a time – I’ll pick up some special face paint) and they can pick a treasure box (noodle box) and decorate while waiting to get face painted (just stars or lines etc on cheek).

11.30: Treasure Hunt

  • In back garden.  While face painting / decorating, get husband to hide freddos etc in back garden.

11.45: Pass the Parcel

12.00: Serve Lunch

  • Pizzas, party pies, little boys, fairy bread, chips
  • Platter of sandwiches for adults (hoping most parents will drop off)

12.20: Dancing

12.40: Dancing Games

  • Musical Statues / Freeze Dance - Have everyone dance and when the music stops they have to freeze or hold their position. Whoever is the first to move is out.
  • Spot Light Dance - One child put on a blindfold, then have the girls dance. Whoever the flashlight is on – has a go with the spot light next go.
  • Limbo - Just get two volunteers (or get two parents) to hold a stick while the girls take turns limbo-ing under it. After each round lower the stick another inch.
  • Conga Line Musical Chairs - Have the girls create a conga line to dance around a group of chairs. A conga line is where the girls must put their hands on the hips of the person in front of them. Stop the music and whoever doesn’t get on a chair is out.
  • Hot Fire Ball - Throw a soft fashing ball and who has the ball when the music is out, is out.

1.00: Cake / Dessert

  • · Sing happy birthday
  •  Eat Cakes / Desserts

1.15: More Dancing

1.50 Collect their own Treasure box (which is also a lollie bag)

2.00 End.

  • Kids go home.
  • We all have wine. Smiling

It sounds like you have the day covered very well. I may pinch some of those ideas for my granddaughter. She will be seven this year too.

Wow - what a great party! These days so many parents get caught up in throwing the most ridiculously expensive party they can with magicians, musicians, professional catering, jumping castles etc etc etc that it's nice to know that the good ol'd fashioned party at home can still be loads of fun. Your daughter's party sounds great...makes me wish I was 7 again!!
Have fun and eat some cake for me:)
