Description

I have decided my goal over the next 12 months is to be able to enter into a 5km fun run and possibly a few marathons in the coming years.

I am a person who has said for the past 10 years 'I cant run because...' Now, even though my first attempt was for only 1min and was exhusted, I decided that I enjoy running and want something to aim for.

So anyone who is interested in attending a fun run in the future but has a long way to go can join the group and record your progress and set little goals to help get there.

Good luck and enjoy the running.

Am doing well with my running. have managed to achieve 5.5min running at 8m/hr so am improving. Unfortunatly my fitness is improving at a slower rate than i had hoped so i may not be able to do the fun run in september- its only about 5 weeks away. Will se how i go.

am becoming more motivated so will attempt tomorrow to run as long as possible, am aiming for at least 5 min, thats what i achieved last time i tried so have to at least match that. i am worried i wont make it to the fun run in september, only have until the end of the month to figure it out as thats when registration is- i must do it!

Am doing much better these days, am onto week 2 couch to 5km. I did not manage to finish- got to 12 min, but thats because my ankle was about to give up. My fitness levels have improved 10 fold. I belive i will be ready for the fun run in september.
My diet is also back on track so the weight should really start shifting.

The past week i have been really slack, only managing 5-10 min on the treadmil. Will try and pick things up agian. I still have a long way to go before i can even think about entering the 3km fun run in septemeber, i am determained to get there but really need to work harder.

Today i started the 'couch to 5km in 8 weeks' challange. So this morning i did 1min running at 8km/hr, 90sec walking, alternating for 20min. It was a real challange as 8km/hr is the fastest i have ran so far- am aiming to do 10km/hr by the end of the challange.
I also did a good strength training work out- all up was a 45min workout so am proud of that

This mornings work out was great, did 20min interval training, 30 reps on ab king, 40 on leg master and did upper body strength training then back on the treadmil for another 10 min walking.

OMG i am so happy! I decided this afternoon to push myself and see how long i could run for. The other day i ran for 80 sec and was feeling proud, that was outside on the footpath. But today, i walked for 1min, then ran continually for 5min! then walked for 1min then ran for another 1min.
5 whole minutes! i did not think i could do it, i just kept going. I think if it was not for my ancles i could have done better but they were feeling like they were going to give up on me.
This is after doing 14min interval training this morning so this afternoon i am feeling great. I tell you what, i really enjoyed my shower!

Oh, and welcome to my group Kate. I think having somwhere seperate to record how your going with your running will help, its always good to see how you are doing and keep motivated

I will join you with this goal Nick. I haven't run in many many years - always have excuses. I have tried a few times but because I have been carrying so much weight my knees have ended up paying the price. I decided a few months ago that once I got to 90kg I would start running. Ultimately I would like to do an "Oprah" and run a marathon. Now THAT would be an incredible high!

Have found a 3km run on the 14th September. It is a run around the botanic gardens in brisbane. It includes the 10km run and a kids event. As i am not ready for the 10km i might enter the 3km. Have until the 30th August to register for it so will see how my running goes.

Todays effort- managed to do 10 min interval training on the treadmil. Walk speed 5 total 5min, run speed 7 total 5min. Great start for this month. I was surprised at how easy it actually was now that i have a goal to reach
