70 year old Grandmother gives birth to twins

The record books have been updated, as a 70 year old Indian Grandmother has given birth to twins. Desperate for a son, Omkari Panwar underwent IVF treatment in hope of achieving their dreams of a male heir. She already had two daughters, and five grandchildren.

 

Omkari's husband, 77 year old Charan Singh Panwar,  also went to great lengths to finance the treatment. He mortgaged his land, took out a loan and sold his buffalos.

It all paid off, as his wife delivered their babies, a boy and a girl, via Caesarean section. Mother and babies are all doing well.

Omkari said “If I am the world’s oldest mother it means nothing to me. I just want to care for my new babies while I am still able. We have got an heir — that is all we ever wanted.”

Even using an egg donor, it is amazing to think the treatment was effective in a women of that age. It's truly mind boggling and also pretty scary to see what modern medicine is making possible.

It angers me how in some cultures women are treated like second class citizens.

These people forget that without us women, their race would not exist!

Who is really going to look after them, the parents are only going to be able to do a small amount for them really. Let's be honest here, it takes energy and lots of it to look after a baby. Can you imagine a 70 year old looking after 2 little babies fulltime. I have 20 years on her and I can tell you it would kill me to have to get up for night feeds and nappy changes ect.

This was a really selfish act on the part of these parents. I agree it is WRONG and seems so very unfair when you think about the women out there who crave a child but are unable to have one.

What sort of doctor would even condon a pregnacy for a 70 year old woman for goodness sakes. Sad

Maybe they should have sold the cows etc, and got an EDUCATION... this is not only sick, but unfortunately self perpetuating. Very sad.

I so agree - this is WRONG!!! They are not thinking about the poor children who will grow up WITHOUT parents. OK, so they may live for another 10 or 15 years, but who on earth would want 95 year old parents when you're a CHILD. These people are only thinking of themselves.

Whats wrong with a female heir? or one of the grandchildren? Its not like they have a billion dollar empire to pass on. I dont think it is very fair on the kids, what are the chances of their parents surviving until they reach adulthood? I dont think doctors should have done it- they should know better

The next goal is always one step closer- keep moving

It is truly amazing. What happened to that woman's menopause? And what fed the placenta?
70 is definitely too old to be giving birth although she doesn't look her age. I wonder how long she will live.

That is so wrong she pass child Bareing age.India is over populated already .Glad the babies are doing well but I don't agree with there reasons.
