Sus - I was just on the VisitVictoria website - under food is a subheading of cafes - there are a lot nominated there - perhaps we could choose one of those? We obviously want good coffee to go with our new friends! Thanks again for organising this, its not far away now!
23 April 2008 - 6:26am — pepispouch
No worries Sus - The Sofitel is still lovely but they've just made some changes to the seating since I last went there but they did change it for me.
If you're looking for some other places, what about Koko Black across the road from Sofi's in Collins St or there's the Hopetoun Tea Rooms in the Block arcade. I've never made it into Hopetoun but it's always packed whenever I've walked past so it must be pretty good!
Other places that do high tea (if that's what you're after) are:
The Windsor - traditionally the best but a bit pricey though
The Park Hyatt - good value and top quality but seated on lounges
The Conservatory at Crown - really good value and nice food
Hope you find somewhere great and all have a fabulous time!
cheers
Dee

Thanks for the review Pepsipouch. I've changed the venue to: TBA because I want the venue to be great.
So I'm opening it up to the people now - the location for the Melbourne Catch-up.

A couple of changes at Sofi's
14 April 2008 - 1:22am — pepispouchHey Sus - I would have loved to come but I have something else on that day so I can't make it:(
Just wanted to let you know though that I went to Sofi's yesterday for high tea and originally when I booked back in November last year and then confirmed seating arrangements in March, I was quoted $38 a head but when they gave me the bill yesterday, they'd charged us $45 a head. When I pointed out the original price they did adjust the bill for me but you may want to check the price because if you booked back in Feb, you should be charged at that price too.
The other thing is that they are now seating large groups on the lounge areas instead of at tables which, although the lounges are very comfy, it's a little more difficult to eat especially if using knives & forks as you either have to bend over to the coffee table in front of you or eat off your lap (not a good look!). If you'd prefer a table setting, just ring them and request one - we had a group of 8 yesterday and even though they had to get management approval for occupational health and safety reasons, they did allocate us a table in the end which was much better.
The other thing was that they tried to charge extra for expresso coffees like lattes, capps etc even though we weren't told they weren't included in the per head price - only filtered coffee and tea is. Fortunately they also waived those charges too.
These things may not fuss you but I've been to Sofi's a few times now over the past couple of years and just thought I'd let you know of some of the changes they've made. Overall though, the food, ambience etc was still devine:)
Have fun and enjoy!
