Counting calories

I decided to check out how many calories i should be eating based on my weight and general activity levels. According to it, i should be eating 1500 calories a day, today, even though i have eaten foods i normally class as naughty, i have only eaten 972calories!

I really dont think i could eat that many calories and actually lose weight- does anyone count calories daily and stick to what is recommended? Based on todays effort i dont think i need to count, just keep track to make sure i dont overeat.

As an addit- I have even been weighing some of my food lately- just so that I get an 'honest' idea of portion sizes, calorie content and nutrional info from what I am eating. Maybe this has been the key to my success int eh last couple weeks- imagine what I could have done if I hadn't splurged on birthday cake!

Heya Nick!
I have decided I am all for counting calories when trying to lose weight, I Will stop and focus on just healthy once I get to my goal But I have really found the weeks that I dont eat enough I dont lose and the weeks that I eat too much I dont lose, this is where I have found the calorie king website to be so helpful for me. I have also read my of the success stories on their and the main thing seems to be not restricting you intake to too few calories cause it doesnt work either. I still try and eat really healthy but I also make sure that I eat 'enough' to keep my metabolism running at full speed. I often eat breaky then dont get hungry till 1130 but my mind tells me it is too early for lunch- si I have taken to having a yoghurt or something at about 11 then having a later lunch and I am really trying to have dinner ready so I eat at 5/530ish with Annabel and then if hungry later on before bed I have had a piece of toast with a spread of jam- but I find most days A big mug of the Jarrah hot choc satisfies me.

I never eat back my exercise calories though, or maybe only 100 of them max if I am desperate!

Hi Nick,
as I've said before in some of my Blogs, if I don't count my calories and measure my portion sizes then I tend not to lose any weight even if I eat healthy.
For me personally I can't lose weight if I go above 1,200 calories a day. You also have to watch the fat & sugar content of the foods you eat too.
If I eat things that are fatty or contain sugar and only eat 1000 calories a day I still put on weight, so you also have to watch that..
Exercise is very important but having said that, I have also managed to lose weight by DIET alone without exercise due to being incapacitated for a long period of time. However if you don't have health restrictions on you doing exercise I reccommend you do at least 30 minutes a day of some type of movement.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck

Hi Nick
The idea is not to only count calories but also to look at the food. Some things you read say to eat more is to weigh less. If you don't eat enough then your body goes into famine mode and holds onto the weight. Read the get started guide and have a look at the videos again. They will explain it a bit better. I think the bottom line is to eat less and move more.

Yes as long as you eat healthy you should be all right .counting calories go over board sometimes. The amount of calories yhey say I don't think I would be able to eat all that either.
