The record books have been updated, as a 70 year old Indian Grandmother has given birth to twins. Desperate for a son, Omkari Panwar underwent IVF treatment in hope of achieving their dreams of a male heir. She already had two daughters, and five grandchildren.

Omkari's husband, 77 year old Charan Singh Panwar,  also went to great lengths to finance the treatment. He mortgaged his land, took out a loan and sold his buffalos.

It all paid off, as his wife delivered their babies, a boy and a girl, via Caesarean section. Mother and babies are all doing well.

Omkari said “If I am the world’s oldest mother it means nothing to me. I just want to care for my new babies while I am still able. We have got an heir — that is all we ever wanted.”

Even using an egg donor, it is amazing to think the treatment was effective in a women of that age. It's truly mind boggling and also pretty scary to see what modern medicine is making possible.
